CADAG CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO HALT SALES OF CREATIVE ART OFFICES AND EDIFICES TO PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS
Executives of the Creative Authors and Directors Association of Ghana (CADAG) has observed with keen interest at the rate at which offices and edifices belonging to the Film and the creative arts is been sold out to private individuals and being diverted to serve other purposes rather than its intend purposes set up by the government.
It’s quite unfortunate that after the creation of the Ghana Film industry corporation and others by the Kwame Nkrumah’s government, subsequent governments did not take interest in its sustainability. One of them is the divertion of GAMA into a television by Malaysians who the edifice was sold to. Subsequently, almost all our cinemas in the country were sold out to churches or individuals for their private projects, those that were not sold have also been neglected for weeds to take over.
Gradually and with time, we have almost lost all buildings meant to serve the purpose and the interest of the creative arts industry thereby contributing immensely to the virtual collapse of the Film industry and the creative arts industry in general.
It’s in the wake of these coupled with the fact that national creative arts associations and guilds don’t even have offices to operate to enhance the development of the creative arts industry
The creative authors and directors association of Ghana has been wondering why an edifice like the ministry of information and classification board in the industrial area, Accra which is not been used by the ministry again is been sold to private individuals at the expense of giving it out to creative arts bodies like Ghana actors guild, musicians union of Ghana, Film producers guild of Ghana, Ghana film crew associations etc to be used as offices to facilitate their work.
Again, mention can be made of another ministry of information office near the H. M office which has also been abandoned paving way for private people to take over.
We the creative authors and directors association of Ghana(CADAG).. wishes to call on the government to stop the selling of these government properties to churches and private people and hand them over to the various associations in the creative arts industry to be used for offices to enable them function effectively to the development of the arts in the country. Remember the only way to sell our country to the outside world to boost tourism in the country is through the creative arts. Government must listen and come to our aid now. We need an edifice where all the creative arts associations in the country can have their offices there, just like the ministries. *we need creative arts complex*
*All creative arts associations in one place* *All in one..one for all*
